Adidas Goalkeeper Gloves: Expert-Tested Picks for Every Level of Play

We have been testing and recommending goalkeeper gloves since 2005. When Adidas came into our lineup, it was not because of the brand name. It was because we put the gloves through real training sessions, real weather conditions, and real game situations before we made a single recommendation. What we found was a lineup worth carrying. Here is everything you need to know to find the right pair.

We Test Every Adidas Glove Before We Recommend It

Our team has worn goalkeeper gloves at every level of the game, from youth training sessions to collegiate and semi-pro competition. That background shapes how we evaluate every glove we carry. We test Adidas gloves for grip performance in wet, dry, and turf conditions. We assess how the latex holds up over time, how the cut behaves across different hand shapes, and whether the construction delivers what the marketing claims.

When we reviewed the Predator GL Pro Hybrid at game level, we tested it in the exact conditions a competitive keeper would face on match day. You can watch that full review on our YouTube channel. If we carry a glove, we have used it. That is the standard.

As Christian has put it: "Adidas is producing some of the best looking and performing goalkeeper gloves in the market every season. The Predator Pro gloves with the URG 2.0+ and 1.0 latex options offer a great balance of grip and cushioning at the game level. The one-piece glove body systems eliminate the need for a wrist strap, making the gloves as lightweight as possible."

Understanding the Adidas URG Latex System

URG stands for Unrivalled Grip. It is Adidas's proprietary latex system, and understanding it is the single most important step in choosing the right Adidas glove. Most retailers list the URG grade in the specs and move on. We are going to explain what it actually means for how you train and play.

URG 1.0

URG 1.0 is the softest, stickiest foam in the lineup. The grip is exceptional for the demands of professional goalkeepers, particularly in wet conditions. The tradeoff is durability. URG 1.0 is built for match day, not for daily training. This is what Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marc-André ter Stegen trust at the highest level of the game.

URG 2.0 and URG 2.0+

URG 2.0 and URG 2.0+ are the sweet spot for most competitive goalkeepers. The grip is excellent in wet and dry conditions. The German All Weather latex is soft to perform at match level and more durable than the URG 1.0 with proper care. URG 2.0+ offers Adidas loyal GKs a goalkeeper glove with the best grip for advanced, college, or club keepers.

URG 3.0

URG 3.0 is built for volume. It is more durable and less sticky than 2.0, which makes it the smarter choice for daily training sessions, particularly on turf or rough surfaces. It is also a practical option for younger keepers who go through gloves quickly. Less grip sensitivity, more longevity.

The honest summary: most goalkeepers are best served by URG 2.0. It performs at the level you need and lasts long enough to justify the investment.

Adidas Predator Goalkeeper Glove Models Explained

The Predator line covers a wide range of levels and preferences. Here is how the models break down and who each one is built for.

Predator GL Pro and Predator GL Pro Hybrid

These are the top of the Predator lineup. Both use URG 2.0 or URG 2.0+ palm latex and are built for advanced competitive keepers.

The adidas Predator GL Pro features a negative cut construction, which places the seams on the inside of the glove for a snug, seamless feel against the palm. The contact area is excellent and the fit is close to a second skin. If you have narrower hands and prefer a tight, responsive feel, this is the one.

The adidas Predator GL Pro Hybrid combines roll fingertip, negative, and flat palm cuts to offer the best of all three constructions. Roll and wrap fingertips give you more control and latex-to-ball contact. The negative cut eliminates extra material for a tighter fit. The flat palm base provides more surface area to control hard shots. A thumbwrap extends grip coverage across the full hand. Adidas Predator Pro goalkeeper gloves are worn by more professional goalkeepers than any other brand, including Gianluigi Donnarumma, Manuel Neuer, and Emiliano Martinez. Professional women's goalkeepers such as Phallon Tullis-Joyce also choose the tight-fitting Adidas Predator line.

Both models are best for advanced high school, collegiate, and adult competitive keepers who want a match-day glove that performs at the highest level.

Predator GL Pro Hybrid Strap

Same Predator DNA as the Pro Hybrid, with one meaningful difference: a fully adjustable strap system for keepers who prefer a locked-in, traditional closure. The strapless entry on the Pro models works well for most keepers, but some prefer the security of a strap during high-volume training or simply trust the feel of a snug closure around the wrist. This model gives you that option without sacrificing the URG 2.0 palm, hybrid cut, or silicone backhand.

Best for keepers transitioning from strap to strapless who want to ease into the fit, and for keepers who have always preferred strap and see no reason to change.

Predator GL Competition

The Adidas Predator GL Competition is a strong mid-tier option that does not compromise on grip. The Adidas Competition goalkeeper glove is often on sale making a great choice.. It uses URG 2.0 latex with a negative cut, delivering match-quality performance at a more accessible price point. For a competitive high school keeper who trains hard and needs a reliable match glove without stretching to Pro-tier pricing, the Competition is often the smarter buy. It is also a solid choice for adult recreational and semi-competitive keepers who want real grip without overinvesting.

Predator Match Fingersave

The Match Fingersave includes rigid finger spines that protect against hyperextension, combined with a soft latex palm and adjustable strap closure.

We want to be direct about finger protection, because it sometimes gets a bad reputation in goalkeeper circles. Fingersave is not a weakness. For a keeper who is 10, 12, or 14 years old and still developing hand strength and catching technique, finger protection is a confident, smart choice. The same is true for any keeper coming back from a finger injury. The spines do not limit performance. They limit the consequences of a hard, awkward ball.

Using Adidas Fingersave goalkeeper gloves is a personal choice. If you need the support, are new to the position, or are a weekend warrior. then they are a great choice. , and for any keeper who has dealt with finger injuries and wants to protect their hands while they recover or rebuild.

Adidas Goalkeeper Glove Cuts and Fit Guide

The cut of a glove shapes how it feels on your hand and how much palm contact you have on the ball. Here is what the three main options mean in practice.

Negative

Negative cut places all seams on the inside of the fingers, creating a snug, close fit Goalkeeper gloves with a negative cut are used by pros more than any other.. Most Predator Pro models use this construction. It is the preferred cut for keepers who want a responsive, tight feel. Note that negative cut models can run snug, particularly in the Predator Pro line with the strapless entry. Measure your hand before ordering.

Hybrid

Hybrid cut combines the best of negative, roll, and flat cuts. The result is a larger overall contact surface while eliminating extra room and bulk. A strong choice for keepers who want more latex-to-ball contact with more freedom than a pure negative cut.

Flat

Flat cut is the most traditional construction, with seams on the outside  and a roomier overall fit. Less common in the current Predator lineup, but worth knowing if you are comparing across older or entry-level models. Flat palm cuts are used in more budget friendly or youth adidas goalie gloves.

Adidas sizing runs snug on certain models. We always recommend measuring your hand before purchasing. View our full goalkeeper glove sizing guide.

Adidas Goalkeeper Gloves for Youth Keepers

Choosing gloves for a young goalkeeper does not need to be complicated. Here is what actually matters.

Youth Adidas gloves start at size 4 and cover most developmental age groups. The most important thing at youth level is fit. A glove that fits well gives a young keeper confidence. An Adidas goalie glove for kids that is too big or too tight will not only fit poorly, it breaks down quicker, and offers less control.

Finger protection is a genuinely good choice for most youth keepers. Youth soccer goalies  in the 9-12 age range are still developing hand strength, catching mechanics, and ball-handling technique. The Predator Fingersave gives them real latex grip performance with added protection against hyperextension. It is not a beginner glove. It is a smart glove.

Sizing tip: there should be a fingernail-length of room at the top of each finger. Not tight, not loose. That is the fit you are looking for.

Caring for Your Adidas Goalkeeper Gloves

Proper glove care is one of the highest-value things a goalkeeper can do. It costs nothing and meaningfully extends the life and performance of your latex.

Before your first use, remove the protective plastic film from the palm carefully. Take your time. Do not pick at it with sharp objects or pull it off quickly. The latex underneath is soft and can tear. Note: Not all Adidas goalkeeper gloves have the plastic film.

Before every session, lightly moisten the palm with water. This activates the latex and maximizes grip from the first save. Do not over-soak. Damp is the goal.

After training or a match, hand wash the gloves gently with clean water and mild soap. Never use a brush. The bristles catch on the latex pores and break them down. Never use synthetic or chemical-based soaps. They fill in the pores and reduce grip over time.

Air dry your gloves away from direct sunlight and away from heaters. Heat degrades latex quickly. A cool, shaded area is all you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Best Adidas Goalkeeper Glove 2026?

The adidas Predator GL Pro Hybrid available in a strap or strapless version is dominating the professional landscape. Advanced and college male and female goalkeepers also want the control and confidence offered in every catch with the All Weather German new URG 2.0+ and custom snug fit offered by the Fusion Mesh. The adidas hybrid cut offers the roll finger, negative, and expanse flat cuts for a tight fit for goalkeepers of all shapes and sizes.

What is URG latex and which grade is right for me?

URG stands for Unrivalled Grip. URG 1.0 offers the highest grip but wears faster. URG 2.0 balances grip and durability and is the right choice for most competitive keepers. URG 3.0 is less expensive while providing a balance of grip and comfort for developing goalkeepers.  If you play 2-3 times per week, URG 2.0 is likely your best option.

What is the difference between the Predator GL Pro and the Predator GL Pro Hybrid?

The GL Pro uses a negative cut for a tight, close fit with strong palm contact. The GL Pro Hybrid is a combination of roll fingertip, negative, and flat cut with a thumb wrap for extended grip coverage.

Are Adidas goalkeeper gloves true to size?

Some Predator models, particularly those with strapless entry, run snug. We recommend measuring your hand before ordering. Use our sizing guide or contact Paul at Paul@keeperstop.com for personalized help. Take your time pulling your adidas soccer goalkeeper gloves on and off.  If you pull too hard or forcefully they can tear.

Are Adidas gloves good for training or just games?

It depends on your budget, comfort, and  model. URG 2.0+ models perform at match level but will wear faster with use in goalkeeper training.  There is always a sacrifice between grip and durability. Can’t have both.

Do Adidas goalkeeper gloves come with finger protection?

Select models, including the Predator Fingersave, include spines that protect against finger hyperextension. If you are buying for a youth soccer goalie or returning from a finger injury, we recommend considering a Fingersave model.

How do I care for Adidas goalkeeper gloves to make them last?

Moisten the palm before use. Remove the plastic film carefully on new gloves. Wash with clean water and mild soap by hand. Never use brushes or synthetic soaps. Air dry away from heat and sunlight. These habits alone will significantly extend the life of your latex.

What Adidas gloves do pro goalkeepers use?

Gianluigi Donnarumma wore the Predator GL Pro Hybrid at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Marc-André ter Stegen has been associated with Predator Pro models throughout his career. Both represent the top of the Predator lineup, built on URG 2.0 latex.

adidas soccer is producing some of the best looking and performing goalkeeper gloves in the market every season. The Predator Pro gloves with the URG 2.0 and 1.0 latex options offer the goalkeeper a great balance of grip and durability or pure grip. The one piece glove body systems being used, eliminate the need for a wrist strap making the gloves as light weight as possible. The addition of the GL Hybrid gloves, worn by Ter Stegen at Barcelona, makes the Predator Pro line up even more impressive.
